Legoland

As most 7 year olds have done, Riley had been begging to go to Legoland.  But I didn't want to take him on one of the typical school holidays when they are jam crowded.  So we decided a nice and hot day in July would be perfect.  Both kids were pretty excited.  We started off in the model room.  They had all the special sights to see in Dallas & Fort Worth made out of legos.  Of course, the main attraction was Cowboys Stadium, but I loved seeing Will Rogers Colliseum too.  They even had two of the art structures that are outside the colliseum made out of legos.  Very impressive. After all that looking it was time to BUILD!
Riley's favorite part was where he could build a racecar out of Legos and then race it down different heights of tracks.  It was a great way to test speed and durability of the cars that he made.  Riley being such a huge race car fan would have stayed there the whole time if I let him.

Alex prefered to sit back and build with the bigger legos in the little kid lego pile.  Legos are still a new thing for Alex so it took some guiding by mommy to build a house with all 4 sides.
Legoland does have a few rides (3 to be exact).  On this particular one you pedal to decide how far up your cart travels.  Alex refused to ride this one.  She was going through a time when she was afraid to ride EVERYTHING!  Very annoying when you bought Six Flags Season Passes this year.
The Lego creatures that the little ones could sit on were absolutely adorable and was just enough to keep Alex entertained while Riley went off to race/build more cars.
I think this ride was the highlight for Riley.  It was a brand new ride that jump opened where the kids can ride through a town setting.  The sad part was we stood in line for 30 minutes and Alex had actually agreed to ride.  Then just as we were about to board, the attendant asked how old she was.  I answered, "3."  If I had just read the sign, then I would have lied and said 4.  No one under the age of 4 was allowed to ride.  She was only 2 months short and drives motorized vehicles at home!  Oh well.

Life sized Dirk!  Look at that, Riley comes up to his waist, and my 6'3" Dad is only up to his shoulder.

Even with all the Lego building places, Alex was happiest on the karaoke stage. She loved singing the itsy bitsy spider over and over on the microphone.  Have I mentioned how much this child loves center stage?

My final thoughts on Legoland was it is quite expensive and you definitely want to buy your tickets online, so that you don't have to stand in a huge line.  Even on a random summer day, that place was crowded.  I think it was designed for a very small age range of 4-8 year olds.  But somehow that doesn't seem to be hurting their business.  As if they were not making enough money, they have the Lego store that you have to walk through to leave.  My son picked out quite a few Lego sets that he wanted.
